A nature hike on an unseasonably warm day adds to a pretty perfect birthday that included: French toast breakfast, then Mass, then piano and history narration (before Mom agreed that schoolwork could be put aside for the day). We enjoyed bacon and eggs for lunch before heading off to the final skating lesson. The girls got high marks on all their skills and asked to take more lessons. Then we headed over to Brookside Nature Center for a hike because the day was too beautiful and none of us wanted to go home yet. Then we had a steak dinner followed by peppermint ice cream pie (new recipe that Mom made up the day before).
Valentine Treats
Aunt Karen and Big Anthony surprised us on Sunday with a fun, edible activity to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Thanks Aunt Karen and Big Anthony!
The Storm
These photos are from the storm a few weeks ago that took away our electricity for three and a half days. The evening it started to snow it took Tim 8 HOURS to get home! I felt so bad for him… I was sitting in the dark at home waiting for him and I was a little nervous when I woke up on the couch at 11:30 PM and he was still not home. He made it home safely by midnight, but he had left the office at 4 PM. We watched our thermometer drop over the next few days and it hit the lowest at 42 degrees. It was cold enough in the house to keep the milk on the counter! We were blessed by wonderful friends (Thank you, Pat and Elena!) who invited us over for dinner on Friday and then let us use their house all day on Saturday while they were not home. They tried to convince us to spend the night, but we thought we would all sleep better in our own (very cold) beds.
As I am posting this the forecast is predicting 60 degree temperatures for this week. What a difference a couple of weeks makes!
Happy Birthday to our “Big” Girl!
It is hard to believe that seven years ago I was crying and daddy was crying and we were smiling at the same time because you (finally) decided to join us after too many hours of labor (and 10 days past your due date). Wow- seven. I admit that most of the time it doesn’t seem like that long ago and Your hopes and dreams are often spilled out in long soliloquies- you are never at a loss for words (except when your nose is buried in a book). We have loved watching, growing and learning with you these first seven years. How much you have taught us about life, love, sacrifice and being parents! I am sure these are just the “beginner lessons” but I can honestly say I am looking forward to the rest of them!

Snow
Way overdue pictures of adventures in the snow…
Our tiny bump of a hill seems to be enough to keep them entertained. Perfect for a mama who is content to stay in the house with her nursing/sleeping baby. Mama also likes preparing yummy hot treats for the busy sledders!
They definitely crashed into the van a few times until I decided to move it. The new sleds are much faster than these small ones that we have used for the last few years. I think Aunt Jennifer and Uncle Dave were thinking we would be attempting some larger hills when they purchased these!
Ballerina Girl
Myriam was SO excited about her first dance class last week. And she was all decked out in this fabulous tutu that Uncle Pat and Aunt Erin gave her for Christmas. Luckily the class is through the county programs and not a studio with a strict dress code.
Better late than never…
I know I am late putting up photos from our trip to Philly. There is so little time for the computer these days- which is actually just fine with me. That means we are busy enjoying life and each other. However, I know that grandparents and aunts and uncles like to stay connected to our kids through the photos I post. I will try to be more diligent over the next few weeks.
First Skating Lesson
- Going pretty well!
- The group gets ready to cross the ice
- More tips as the instructor lends a hand.
- Therese gets some tips from the instructor
- Myriam waits with Giovanni- safely gripping the side
- Myriam is thrilled she made is safely across the ice!
The first lesson was a huge success. I am so excited! I love to skate and cannot wait to have the girls going with me… I plan to get a sitter a few times over the next few weeks so I can attend the open skate sessions with them. These pictures are not that great, but I wanted to share. They both had so much fun and despite falling several times, there were smiles at the end of the lesson. Myriam came running out saying, “Didn’t I do great, Mama?” I love that confidence!
